Senior Band - Contest Results
The 81st Spring
Brass Band Festival
Winter Gardens, Blackpool - 5th May 2001
Qualifying Contests for The British Open Brass
Band Championship
The Senior Cup
The test piece for this year's
Senior Cup competition was 'Prometheus Unbound' by Sir Granville
Bantock and 20 bands competed in the Pavilion Theatre each
giving its own interpretation of this wonderful music. The
venue was ideal and the whole day was very well organised.
James Scott and Geoffrey Whitham were in the box and gave
their comments before the results. They were both pleased
at the choice of test piece and commented that although not
technically difficult, the piece required good control of
balance and intonation and two bands had demonstrated this
admirably and had given a very musical performance.

Congratulations to Beaumaris Senior Band
on a fine performance and on receiving 2nd place with an invitation
to play at next year's Grand Shield competition.
Adjudicator's Remarks:
Below are some of the remarks given by
the adjudicators on the Beaumaris Band performance:
Good secure opening with detailed attention.
Musical solo lines with secure and in tune chording.
The Music has shape and style Splendid Poco Largamente with
tight and balanced ensemble.
The playing is very well controlled and a Trionfale that was
meaningful.
Cornet Cadenza was very musical as was the close from the Maestoso
- a very controlled and detailed musical close.
A good performance.
