Beaumaris Band Musical Director, Gwyn Evans, has been honoured by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Gwyn will receive the prestigious Mortimer Medal during the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in the Royal Albert Hall in October.
The Mortimer Medal is awarded to members of the Brass Band community who are deemed to have made an outstanding contributionto Youth Bands and young musicians and when making the anouncement Philip Morris, Chairman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians' Brass Band Committee said "Gwyn is one of the unsung heroes of Welsh youth brass band development."
As well as his success with Beaumaris Senior Band, Gwyn has conducted the Gwynedd and Môn Youth Brass band to three National Youth Championship of Great Britain titles as well as winning the National Youth Entertainment Championships of Great Britain and the Music For Youth innovation award with Beaumaris Youth Band.
The crowning glory with the Beaumaris Youth Band will take place in May as the Band, under Gwyn's baton, will represent Wales at the European Youth Brass Band Championships in Utrecht, Netherlands.
