A good day of competing

It was a day to remember for Seindorf Beaumaris Band on the opening morning of competition at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Bodedern, Anglese as the Band secured two first prizes. The day started with the Youth Band competing in the Fourth Section under the baton of Gwyn Evans, before Gwyn grabbed his cornet and joined the Senior Band under Morten Hansen to clinch the Third Section trophy. This is the first time Beaumaris have competed at the Eisteddfod since winning th

A bumper Christmas in Beaumaris

Christmas time is one of the busiest times for any Brass Band as the dust is blown off the Carol Books for yet another year, but this Christmas has been a record breaking season for Seindorf Beaumaris. Last weekend saw a total of 168 musicians playing across Beaumaris' family of five bands in two sold out concerts at Canolfan Beaumaris. "It's an incredible achievement to have so many players on stage," said Seindorf Beaumaris' Musical Director, Gwyn Evans. "It didn't really d

Friends help out

Several members of Seindorf Beaumaris Band's youth sections have been handed brand new instruments thanks to the invaluable support of the Friends of Beaumaris Band. A recent influx of new members to the Junior, Intermediate and Youth Bands had meant a shortage of instruments, but this week the Friends of Beaumaris Band presented the Band with two brand new baritones and six brand new cornets. The new instruments ensure the band's young musicians are able to continue their mu

Congratulations Gwenllian

Youth Band trombone player, Gwenllian Howe, has won the inaugural Ruth Gwilliam Shield as Seindorf Beaumaris Band's most improved musician. Gwenllian was presented with the award, made in memory of former Seindorf Beaumaris Band member Ruth Gwilliam, at the Band's summer concert on Saturday evening. A pupil at Ysgol Tryfan, she only started playing the trombone three years ago, joining the Beaumaris Youth set up as a member of the Intermediate Band. As well as helping the Int

Where are the trumpets?

Before my son (and then daughter) started playing with the Beaumaris Brass Band I didn't have the slightest idea about the weird and wonderful world of Brass Bands. I wasn't aware of the history and traditions of brass banding but all of a sudden I had to get to grips with this new vocabulary; what is a Flugel Horn, why is there more than one Solo Cornet, who are those people standing behind the band… and where on earth are the trumpets? So for those parents and friends who,

Youth Band tour of Norway

This summer was no ordinary summer for members of Seindorf Beaumaris Youth Band who, rather than a long, lazy and quite frankly boring school holiday, enjoyed a mini tour of Norway. The tour, which saw them playing two concerts in and around the town of Stavanger was a reward for their success and hard work over the previous 18 months. "We have had an incredible 18 months as a Youth Band, winning the Youth Entertainment Championships of Great Britain, performing at the Royal

Six of the best for the Youth Band

Getting back together after the summer holidays is always an exciting time for the Youth Band and this year was no exception. New seats were filled once again as the almost annual influx of new members were promoted from the Intermediate Band but this year there was a new conductor to contend with too as Gwyn Evans took the baton with the Youth Band. Gwyn, as the band’s Musical Director, is certainly no stranger to the Youth band members, and, as he teaches the vast majority

New kids on the block in Newtown

As we left Beaumaris at seven o'clock in the morning, there wasn't much noise to be heard on the Beaumaris Youth Band bus. Most of the young players were trying to catch up on some sleep as we drove down to mid Wales for the Newtown March & Hymn contest. This is the first time the present Youth Band have competed outside of the North Wales Rally and as the competition was open to Second Section bands, they were competing against some of Wales' more experienced bands.
